Forgery: Police Force Headquarters Summon Ondo Assembly, Clerk

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in Abuja has summoned Speaker Jumoke Akindele and Clerk Bode Adeyelu of the Ondo State House of Assembly for questioning over the purported ‎act of conspiracy in forging a document of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).


A competent source in Akure who spoke to SaharaReporters on Sunday evening said the Criminal Investigative Department is on the trail of both the Speaker and the Clerk for allegedly forging the INEC Certificate of Return for two candidates of the State Assembly, Abayomi Akinrutan and Coker Malachi. Both Mr. Akinrutan and Mr. Malachi are members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and in recent weeks have been regular visitors to the police force headquarters in Abuja during the investigation.

The source disclosed that the summons was part of the ongoing investigation of the unlawful swearing-in of the two suspected contestants into the State parliamentary house. According to the source, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) at the INEC Ondo State headquarters, Segun Agbaje, was also questioned, along with the two officials who oversaw the elections under question in Ilaje Constituency I and II. Both overseeing officials, called Returning Officers, had declared false results in favor of Mr. Malachi and Mr. Akinrutan whil under duress.

A high-ranking police source confirmed to SaharaReporters that the security agencies have put the Assembly under close watch. "Yes, they are trailing the Speaker and the clerk,” the source said, mentioning that there are other investigations ongoing into members of the Assembly.
