President Bola Tinubu is reportedly holding a meeting with Senate representatives led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio at the State House.
This meeting follows the suspension of Senator Abdul Ningi, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Population, over allegations of budget padding.
Senator Ningi, representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), recently claimed that the 2024 Budget had been padded by up to ₦3.7 trillion.
He raised concerns that the budget being implemented differed significantly from the one passed by the National Assembly.
In a BBC Hausa Service interview, Ningi alleged discrepancies between the budget debated and passed by the National Assembly and the one currently being executed, pointing fingers at President Tinubu's administration for the disparity.
However, the Presidency, through a statement by Special Adviser Bayo Onanuga, refuted Ningi's claims, asserting that President Tinubu presented a budget of N27.5 trillion, not N25 trillion, to the National Assembly.
