Buhari appoints Mahmood Yakubu as INEC chairman

ABUJA–President Mohammadu Buhari on Wednesday appointed Professor Mahmood Yakubu as the new chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. Yakubu who is taking over from the Acting Chairman of the Commission, Mrs. Bala Zakari was the former Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFUND.

How to vote & What to expect at the Polling Centre

A voter on arriving the polling station on Saturday will meet a team of between four and five polling officers. The voter will, on arrival, join the queue for accreditation and when it gets to his or her turn, the voter will handover the Permanent Voter’s Card, PVC to an assistant presiding officer, APO, whose duty it is to check the authenticity of the card using the card reader.

Politicians that cloned, bought PVCs will be disappointed – INEC

ABEOKUTA- The national Commissioner of Independent National Electoral Commission in charge of Oyo, Ogun and Ekiti states, Prof. Lai Olurode, has said politicians who have either cloned or bought up the Permanent Voter Cards from registered voters will be disappointed during the forthcoming elections.

Olurode said this yesterday, at the INEC headquarters in Abeokuta while briefing journalists on the preparedness of the commission.
The  INEC commissioner who allayed the fears of the electorate over the usage of  card readers during the coming elections, said the commission introduced the machines with a view to checking counterfeiting and impersonation during the elections.

APC Dismisses DSS Latest Findings

Police find 1,700 voter cards inside bush

The Lagos State Police Command has recovered no fewer than 1,700 Voter Cards believed to have been hidden by unknown persons inside a bush in the Seme, Badagry area of Lagos.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the VCs, which were concealed in a swampy forest in the area, were recovered by policemen attached to the Area K Command, Morogbo.
Our correspondent gathered that the officers, who were on patrol, stumbled on the hidden election materials on Sunday, November 16.
According to the police, the recovered VCs, which had been handed over to the Independent National Electoral Commission, Lagos State office, are suspected to have been stolen from an INEC worker in the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area.
