Adebayo Makinde marks 80th birthday with funfare

It was a gathering of the crème de la crème of the society. Stakeholders in the health sector and people from all walks of life trooped into Balmoral Event Centre in Lagos to celebrate Chief Adebayo Makinde as he marked his 80th birthday.
Makinde, a pharmacist, administrator and businessman, the Sagbua Alaafin of Oyo and the Chief Executive Officer of Sata Pharmacy Limited, has contributed immensely to the development of the health sector in the country.
Meanwhile, a thanksgiving service was earlier held at First Baptist Church, off Olowo Street, Ikeja, where prayers and praises were sang to mark the octogenarian ’s birthday.
Makinde expressed his gratitude to God for protecting him and his family members.
“I feel happy and grateful to God for keeping me alive to celebrate 80 years on earth,” he said, while demonstrating with a dance to the musical performance of the Messiah Band.
His family members and friends joined him to the delight of everyone. The guests later took over the dancing floor as they responded to the beautiful renditions of the band.
Speaking to The Guardian, the son of the celebrant, Mr. Adebola Makinde, described his father as God-fearing, hardworking and an accommodating person, who believes that “we are all debtors. We owe other people to do what is good for them and add values to their lives.”
Recalling, Adebola, said: “About one and half years ago, my father was flown abroad because he suffered a stroke. Today, he is hale and hearty and can walk and move around. It calls for celebration and thanksgiving. We have to celebrate him while is still alive.”
In his goodwill message, Rev. Peter Ademosun lauded Makinde’s kindness and support for his family over the years.
United States-based Nigerian, Mr. Debo Adesokan, thanked the celebrant for his support when he was still in Nigeria. He recounted how Makinde made him to board the Lufthansa Air for the first time in his life, describing him as a “man with a kind heart and good deeds. ”
Makinde had served the church in various capacities as Chairman, Building Committee, Transport Committee, Director Baptist Students Fellowship and President Ifelodun Society among others.
As a Parents/Teachers Association Chairman, he also engaged in various projects and charity works for the needy in the society with a strong belief that “givers never lack”.
As a past President of Rotary Club of Ogba, he has also contributed so much to humanity.
He is a Paul Harris Fellow and has a merit Award of Pharmaceutical Society (PSN) among other awards.
