Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has described those behind the rumoured death of President Muhammadu Buhari as, not only wicked, but also callous and treacherous.A statement by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, in Abeokuta yesterday quoted the former President as saying, “instead of embarking on such worrisome declaration, all that the President needs are our prayers and best wishes, which will ginger his morale to come back much stronger and better.”
Obasanjo who cautioned against “politicisation of every situation” in the country, recalled that he had also been a victim of such death rumour while in office as the President, saying, no normal human being would wish an elderly person dead, irrespective of their differences.”“If you don’t like him (President), wait for another election and not go about saying he is dead. No matter his health situation, we should pray for him to recover quickly and come back much stronger and better.“For anyone wishing him dead, such person or group of persons are callous, wicked and treacherous,” he declared.
Obasanjo added: “I was also rumoured to have died almost 12 times. I don’t know what they derive from doing so, but they should seek for forgiveness. We should just stop politicizing everything, especially with issues concerning the elderly in the country. The former President travelled to Britain on January 19 for a short holiday, but since last week, there have been speculations, especially in the social media that he had passed on, which has turned out to be false.
