Makinwa impressed with large turnout at Water FC open trial

Over 2000 Nigerian young talents participated at the just concluded Water Football Club of Abuja football trials held at the Agege Stadium in Lagos. The two-day open screening which was done in partnership with an unnamed Qatari football outfit saw players within the age bracket of 15-24 showcased their talent during the event.Nureni Makanju of MK Sports International expressed satisfaction with the large turnout, even as he promised to extend the search to other parts of the country.Water FC 3Makanju with players during the open screening in Lagos.

Our motive of coming to Lagos to do the screening exercise is to give opportunities to people in Lagos to participate and also see maybe they can get a chance to play in Europe or any part of the world.I am satisfied with the turnout of players for this exercise and I appreciate Lagosian for honouring me with this kind of attendance.

Now this screening is not limited to Lagos alone because we have bunch of talents in every parts of Nigeria. We’ve started with Lagos, we are still moving to several parts of the country. We are still going to many states because we want the best from the country. We are conducting this screening for non attached players and it will be very difficult to get a bunch of players in one location, therefore we have to move around the country before we can get the best we want.

“Our mission and vision at Water FC is that we want to use football to draw people to God, either muslim or christian. We want to give them orientation about good behaviour in the society. Also we want to produce African and world best, we want to see Water FC players going ahead to feature for top European clubs and play in the Champions League, Europa League and so on. We want to produce quality players.By our Motto which is ‘Raising standard through discovery by hard work’, we want to raise people from grass to grace,” said the FIFA Player’s Agent.Makanjuola also hinted that the team intends to buy a slot in the Nigeria National League next season.

“We want to play in the NNL next season and with the support of everybody. But we cannot just come into NNL without having good players to play. Therefore our primary assignment is what we are doing here, which is, to get players that can compete in the NNL.”The likes of Michael Babatunde of SC Qatar, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi of Akwa United, Okechukwu Gabriel of FC Karpaty Lviv in Ukraine are some of the players to have been scouted from previous screening exercises.
