Security sources have blamed Boko Haram for three explosions which reportedly killed 37 people at the weekend in a Chadian city on the shores of Lake Chad.

According to the AFP, another 52 people were reportedly wounded in the attacks that struck at around 4pm, targeting the fish market at Baga Sola.

Two other attacks were staged at a refugee camp on the outskirts of the city. These attacks came following vows by the Nigerian military to do everything possible towards the rescue of the Chibok girls and other innocent victims being held captive by the jihadist sect terrorising various parts of Nigeria’s northeast region.
In a statement made on Sunday, October 11, Colonel Rabe Abubakar, the director of defence information, promised that all those held captive  in terrorists’ dens would be rescued. The statement was made while responding to various reports on the plight of the Chibok girls.
While denying a recent media report regarding an alleged escapee who claimed most Chibok girls were pregnant, the military spokesman urged the media to always verify their information before feeding it to the general public.
He noted that: “The DHQ is not unmindful of the media’s good intention in this regards however, we wish to advise reporters and any other stakeholders to be good partners in ensuring their safe rescue and successful termination of terrorists campaign.”
According to Abubakar, the search for the abducted Chibok school girls and the rescue of other Nigerian hostages has never lapsed as could be attested to recently with hundreds of women and children rescued by the military through its coordinated operations.
He said: “The military will continue to sustain the operation until the entire North-east is cleared of all terrorists and miscreants.” In conclusion, the military chief promised that: “The Nigerian military and other security agencies are working round the clock to secure the release of not only the Chibok girls but other innocent citizens who are held hostage by the terrorists.
He stressed that the military as a component of the society is equally worried and is doing everything possible to address the current security challenges besetting the nation. Meanwhile, the chief of army staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai has condemned a recent show of shame by Nigerian troops.
Buratai deplored Nigerian troops for the cowardly abandoning of their weapons and fleeing in the face of a Boko Haram attack at Geidam, Yobe state. The army spokesman disclosed his unhappiness in Lagos, during his maiden tour of units and commands under the 81st Division of the Nigerian army.
He said it was sad to hear that the troops at Geidam who should have repelled the attack fled in the face of enemy fire, despite the fact that they had the necessary weapons and equipment to protect themselves, civilians and property.
The COAS said he had ordered the troops to review their attitude towards the ongoing war against the insurgency, stressing that .they must apply all the battle principles that they have been taught and be ready to deploy the weapons and equipment properly, in defence of self and country.
