2015: Why Igbos Should Support Jonathan/Sambo Ticket

Pro Jonathan Groups under the aegis of the South East Amalgamation of Jonathan/Sambo for presidency in 2015 has called on Igbos to ensure the victory of President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 polls.

Briefing Journalists in Owerri after her extra-ordinary meeting in Owerri, weekend, where the groups agreed to collapse into one, its National Coordinator, Chief Elvis Agukwe said that since the different groups had the same agenda of delivering Jonathan for 2015, they had to merge so as to speak with one voice.
He observed that the South east geo-political zone had before now been marginalised and starved of infrastructure and federal presence, until Jonathan came in as president.

Agukwe also pointed out that he had used his position to cement the relationship between the South East and their South South brothers, insisting that under Jonathan’s first term South east zone was not left behind in the scheme of things.

According to him, for over 40 years, successive governments had pursued the unwritten policy to continue to rip off the South East economically, despite the fact that they are the most travelled people in the country, their rights were denied, “no international airport, no sea port, no plum appointments, etc. but we are happy that Jonathan came in and restored back all those rights to the people, so we are happy with him and want him to go for a second term, which is his constitutional right”.

He also added that for the respect President Jonathan has for the Igbos by according befitting burial to Dim Chukwuemeka Ojukwu and Prof. Chinua Achebe as well as completing the mausoleum for late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe in Onitsha, including the flagging off of the second Niger Bridge and elevation of Akanu Ibiam Airport to an International status, Jonathan deserved the support of the Igbos to go for a second term.

“Promises that were not kept by successive governments have been kept under Jonathan. It has become a promise kept, that second Niger Bridge was not just a bridge, it is a statement that Igbos have now returned to the mainstream of Nigerian affairs", he stated.

The Aba/Port Harcourt expressway is receiving attention, Onitsha/Enugu highway is being built and several others”, he said.

Agukwe emphasised that the South east people were grateful whenever somebody show love on them, adding, “We are saying that if other zones have done second tenure during their regime, South South also should have the constitutional right to do a second term.

“If President Jonathan has done well for the country, he deserves the right to go for second term. We then see that Jonathan has shown love for the South east, therefore we decided to unite and support him. That is what gave birth to the South east Amalgamation for Jonathan/Sambo support for 2015”.

He therefore, promised that if Jonathan got 80 percent in 2011 election in the south east, he was sure that with their support, he would get 95 percent as every effort have been pointed towards his direction.
